Other Books We've Read
Just because it hasn't won an award doesn't mean it isn't worth reading.  We go to the library once a week and my daughters each get to pick out two picture books in addition to the books I pick out to read.  I like to send them on scavenger hunts through the library to teach them the way the library works.

For my 7 year-old I pick out a book ahead of time and have her search for it.  I tell her the genre, the author's name and the title of the book.  Usually it's a Newberry book that we are planning to read together and then I send her off to find her own book.

For my 5 year-old, I ask her to pick one book out of the "B" section and one book out of the "N" section.  I change it up every time and we look and show that the autho's last name always starts with the same letter that she was looking in.

Anyways, they've picked some winners and some less than desirable ones, but it's their choice.  I don't like every book I've picked out and read either.
