Kindergarten Before and After School

Your baby is officially a big-kid now!

Whether it is before school or after school, morning kindergarten or afternoon kindergarten, I see my job as making your child feel at home.  They need to unwind, relax, play, but still work on those skills they are learning in their classroom.

I encourage the children to show me what they have done or made in their class.  They are SO proud to show off their work to other people and it builds up thier self-cofindence so much to hear praise for their hard work.

I will work on homework with your child if you desire, but I really feel that homework, especially kindergarten homework, should be done at home with mom or dad.  It completes the school-home connection.  I realize that certain days may be busy, and you may ask that I help on certain days, and that is perfectly fine.  Family time at home is just as important.

It has been my experience that both boys and girls at this age love to 'teach' the younger kids about what they are learning.  This is such a good learning activity for them.  I had a college professor say to me once that if you could teach it to someone else, you know that you have truly mastered it.

With all of that being said, they are still babies.  They still need a snuggle or a book read.  Many still need naps.  I am willing to incorporate activities and schedules that suit your individual child's needs.

I do not like to press to hard with extra work with my school-age kids.  They have spent the day in school and they do not need me adding to their work.  I do like to sneak in the learning. :)  I have a lot of math games, phonics games, and literary awareness games that has them practicing, while they are still having fun.

Please know I will not plop your child in front of the TV and do nothing with them.  We might have a special movie day no more than once a week, But it will not be a common occurrence.
