I really need to do some research on the artistic style of this book. I know I've seen it before.
This book has a very positive message. The author author grew up in Argentina, which is where this story takes place.
An Argentine man, a gaucho (spanish for cowboy), is making a necklace out of an old piece of bone, silver and stone. The necklace is a special necklace for a special person. He decides to give it to her grandmother. She passes it on, and it continues to change hands, each person realizing how special the necklace truly is.
In Argentina, the expression, "to make a gauchada," means to do something kind, with love, without expecting anything in return. This information along with other definitions of spanish words is in the forward by the author.
No medals or awards, but still a really good book with really different and beautiful illustrations. I love exposing my children to other cultures and this book is a good example. I learned from it too.
