I was sneaky or at minimum persistent and checked the library every day until this book showed up as available to put on hold. I ended up first in line. Whoopee!
Well, then I felt kind of bad because it took me forever to read it. I just couldn't get into it. I had to re-read part of Eldest to recall details. Could it be that this book took forever to come out? Maybe.
I know that the other two books jumped around a bit where one chapter was taking place with Eragon, the next with Roran. But, this book seemed to be worse than than the other books.
I was irritated at times because it's going from the Varden Camp, then to the Ra'zac lair, then back to the Varden, then to the dwarves, then to the elves, back to the Varden. Sheesh.
The book did get better and you find out a lot of details as the book goes on. You learn a lot about the past of many of the characters and the hidden qualities of others.
Do not read on if you don't want spoilers.

The worst part fo the book for me was Oromis and Glaedr coming back. They keep them hidden for so long, build up strength, everyone is so happy there is another free dragon and rider. Then what do they do? Fly straight into battle and die. What the heck?!? What was all the build up for?
I also thought the ending sucked. It was like there should have been more chapters and it just abruptly stopped.
I wonder how long before the next one comes out. I wish that someone would remake the Eragon movie so that the series could continue on at the movies as well. They killed the first one. I don't think that anyone could make a movie of Eldest that would be strong enough to compensate for the crappiness of the Eragon movie. Shame. I think if done correctly they would make great movies.
