Bill Peet an Autobiography
October 3rd-5th, 2008
Well, I really wanted to really like this. And actually ~I~ did. My daughter was bored to tears.
The book is 192 pages long. It took us three days to get through it. I found it interesting to find out more about the author who gave us some great children's book ove the years. This would be a good book for a slighlty older child wanting to learn more about life in the 1920's and 30's.
This book won the Caldecott Honor in 1988. I take my stance that although this is a great book, in my eyes the Caldecott books should be directed at children who are reading picture books. Around the ages of 3-6. This book was too long for this age group and frankly I don't think even Bill Peet intended the average 3-6 year-old to be reading. In my opinion, although it has pictures, and lots of them, it does not qualify as a picture book. It is even shelved in the Juvenile Biography section of my local library.
